Understanding the Catalog Preferences 


Item

This is the general information specific to the item such as pictures, media, pricing options, policies and more.

 
Category

This is the general preference specific to the category.

 
Home Layout

Home Layout tab enables you to customize the home page elements. If you want your store homepage to have a unique display, all of the settings are available here.

 
Category Layout

Category layout handles the general behavior of the store categories. However the same preferences are available under each specific category so that they can also be customized. In addition subcategories can be customized under subcategory settings.

 
Item Layout

Item (Product) layout handles the general behavior of the store items /products. The same preferences are available under each specific item so that they can be customized.

 
Vendor Layout

Vendor layout handles the general behavior of Vendor stores. However the same preferences are available under each specific vendor so that they can be customized. This is a general preference for store admins, if you want vendors to be able to customize you will need to enable the option Item Edit Layout in Vendor Preferences.

 
Integration

This preference handles the settings from other application integrations like jSubscription, Google Base and JomSocial.

 

Each Product, Product Type, and Category has its own layout, if you want each item or category can behave differently. For instance, you can set a Category to show like your store homepage with a carousel or a product type in a horizontal display.
