Coded names... Upgraded and still getting what looks like spam?
Status: Solved

I had the free version of jNews and kept having 'Subscribers' names have some kind of code that always started with the number 5.
What is this code, that is in the name column (see attached image > 58e908ad433be, 58e8cb6182ef3, 58e8b8426c4ce) and why is there no Captcha ("Use Captcha": set to Yes in the module - http://ecopeaceful.com/subscribe see second "Newsletter SignUp!" the first "Newsletter SignUp" is made using the extension Beautiful CK).
I do have the "code" turned on for the Plugin, as you can see also in this page http://ecopeaceful.com/subscribe/subscribe, but the module (right column) has no option for "code" spam protection.

Hello JD,

The free version of jNews does not offer captcha in the module. The subscribe page, we recently added the captcha since anyone can use the link to subscribe.
This is why the reason the the module captcha does not show.

After nearly 9 years developing newsletter plugin and base on many studies, captcha don't really stop spam. It is advisable to use double-opt in to ensure the accounts are real.

Looking at the subscribers name, they look like they generated automatically... If you are only using the Free version of jNews, I would advise to update to jNewsletters.

jNewsletters has more features than the free one, it has captcha and you can even schedule a newsletters. In short, it has almost all feature from the paid version of jNews except auto-responder and smart-newsletters.

It is currently on beta however we have been testing it for several weeks now and so far it is working very well that we ended updating Joobi.co to use jNewsletters. We will start to send our first newsletters today using jNewsletters to over 400k list subscribers.

In case you decide you update, I would recommend to simulate first the update in your test site to make sure that your List and subscribers are migrated.

Sorry, I did not make myself clear. I had the free version of jNews, but upgraded to the Pro version.
Re: "jNewsletters has more features than the free one, it has captcha"
Are you saying that jNewsletter has captcha in the modules? I understand that jNews has captcha, like I stated and showed in the links I provided, but does not have captcha in the module.

Hello JD,

I just want to clear the misunderstanding.

1. jNews and jNewsletter is 2 different products.
jNewsletter is the new one we just released on beta a week ago.

Yes, jNewsletter has captcha and more advance features that jNews do not have and it's free.

Here are the features of jNewsletters:

jNews:

2. The free version of jNews does not have captcha. You will see the option but it is not usable in the free one. Having said that the free one has an added captcha in the subscription page to stop automated subscription via URL which we added not long ago.

You see here that jNews free has no captcha.

I hope my reply any confusion.
